I am a proud native of Baltimore County with a business, accounting, finance and marketing background and caregiving in my blood. Laid off from my position as CFO for a payroll service bureau in May of 2014, after helping the owner sell the business, I explored a number of options for continuing my career. Following my heart, I connected with The Senior’s Choice, the largest membership network of senior care providers in the world, providing unsurpassed care and priceless peace of mind to tens of thousands of seniors and their families throughout North America and internationally.

The extent of my own personal healthcare experience has been limited to my family. I have experienced the deaths of four grandparents, a father, a father-in-law, and a husband. All, but my husband, lived beyond age 65 and each had different needs and desires as they approached the end of their lives. My mother and mother-in-law are both in their eighties and are currently fairly healthy. I have five siblings and their spouses, two children, three grand-children and scores of nieces and nephews in addition to a brother-in-law and his wife, four living aunts and tons of cousins. I am close to all of my family members.

Once I had made the decision to get into the caregiving industry, it occurred to me that this is what I am meant to do. You see, my father grew up in the Baltimore County Almshouse where his parents (William James and Leila Chilcoat) cared for the indigents of the community from 1920 – 1958 as his grandparents (Mr. and Mrs. John P. Chilcoat) had done from 1907 – 1920.

I have noticed that older people have an affinity for familiar surroundings; they don’t like change. Many are happy and comfortable in their homes and want to live their life out in their homes. I want to be part of helping others live out their senior years safely in the comfort of their familiar surroundings. You never know what to expect. Eventually daily living activities become difficult for the aging individual to handle independently and they need support.
